Frontier Co-op® Organic Chicory Root (Cichorium intybus) is a hardy European perennial, historically cultivated along the Nile River and later introduced to America in the 18th century. Known for its robust, roasted flavor, chicory root is most commonly used to make a caffeine-free coffee substitute with a similar taste to coffee but with less stimulation. You can also enhance regular coffee with chicory for a richer, nutty flavor. To prepare as a tea, steep 1 tsp. of chicory root in 8 oz. of boiling water for 3-5 minutes, then strain and serve.
